PSAT to SAT Score Conversion: Predict Your Score.

With all of the recent changes to both the SAT and ACT essays, we can’t help but notice that the optional Writing tests are losing traction. As of today, only 15% of colleges require the SAT or ACT essay, and of those colleges, many choose to place less weight on it than they do other scores.

LSAC does not score the writing sample. Instead, the essay is digitally imaged and sent to admission offices along with the LSAT score. Between the quality of the handwriting and of the digital image, some admissions officers regard the readability and usefulness of the writing sample to be marginal.

LSAT Writing uses the same decision-prompt structure that schools and candidates are already familiar with from previous LSAT administrations. This structure is specifically designed to elicit the kind of argumentative writing that candidates will be expected to produce in law school. Candidates will still be given 35 minutes to write an essay.

Writing consists of two components, the scaled score based on your Multiple choice raw score, and the essay score. The essay score, which is out of 12, counts for about 30% of your writing score. The scaled score (out of 80) counts for the remaining percentage. The bit out of 80 is determined solely by the multiple choice sections.
